We understand that some patients may be interested in accessing weight loss injections through their GP practice. Following careful consideration, The Downland Practice has decided that we are currently unable to offer this service as part of the optional QOF weight management programme.
This decision has been made because the service is not funded at a level that would allow us to provide it safely and sustainably within our existing resources. Delivering weight loss injection treatment requires significant clinical and administrative support, including assessment, prescribing, monitoring, and follow-up appointments.
Like many GP practices, we are facing increasing demand for routine medical care. Introducing this service without additional staffing would have a direct impact on our ability to provide timely appointments and care for patients with acute illnesses, long-term conditions, and other essential healthcare needs.
Our priority is to ensure that we continue to provide safe, high-quality care to all our patients. For this reason, we are not currently able to offer weight loss injections through the practice. You will remain able to access these privately via reputable pharmacies.
Please note that this class of medications are often prescribed on the NHS for diabetes management.
