Unfortunately, due to nursing constraints and difficulties in recruiting replacement Healthcare Assistants, we are no longer able to provide a phlebotomy service at The Downland Practice. This means we will no longer be doing any blood tests at the surgery. If you require a blood test, including routine, urgent, INR, or hospital requested, you will need to arrange this with the hospital (contact details below).
Urgent bloods – appointments for urgent bloods can be obtained at West Berkshire Hospital within 24-48 hours. You should call the phlebotomy department (01635 273343 option 3) to book urgent bloods. The doctor will mark the form urgent if clinically indicated.
INR (warfarin) – if you are requested by the warfarin clinic to have a short notice test and they cannot get a routine appt with WBCH in time, you should speak to the warfarin clinic.
Hospital requested bloods (including chemotherapy bloods) – hospital must mark your blood form urgent if urgent bloods are required. Please contact your hospital consultant to amend the form to urgent if needed urgently.
