Downland Practice COVID-19 Update

DOWNLAND PRACTICE COVID-19 UPDATE: In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the following safety measures have been put in place by The Downland Practice GP Partners for the safety of patients and staff.

Please also see our frequently asked questions (FAQs) and COVID-19 Support Room for further information, help, and advice.

Contacting and visiting us

From Monday 11th May, the practice doors will be CLOSED until further notice. Our teams are still working.

If you need to speak to our team, please ask a question via the website or call 01635 248251. Due to staff shortages, questions submitted via the website, and telephone calls may take longer than usual to be answered. Please ensure you have checked our FAQs before calling.

If you have been asked by a member of staff to collect or deliver something in person, please be aware that ALL entry to the practice (including our staff) is restricted and subject to a routine temperature check. DO NOT VISIT the surgery or pharmacy if you or anyone else in your household have a new persistent cough or high temperature.

Surgery/Pharmacy opening times and closures

Please click HERE for up-to-date information on our opening hours.

The surgery will be CLOSED between 09:00 and 09:30 each day for staff briefing. These times are subject to change pending further updates from NHS England.

GP appointments

If you need to speak to a GP, please call at 08:00 on the day you need advice.

All GP appointments are now conducted through an ‘on the day’ telephone triage. If you request a GP call back, please ensure that your telephone number is correct and you are available to take a call at any point during the day. If you need to be seen for further assessment, the GP will arrange this with you. You may be asked to supply a photograph of your symptoms, if appropriate. Our team will explain at point of booking how to do this.

Nurse appointments and services

If you need to see a nurse, please call at 08:00 on the day you need to be seen.

For booked nurse appointments, please wait outside (you may wait in the car) at your appointment time. If you are arriving by car, please park in the marked spaces in the surgery car park. The nurse will call your mobile number to invite you inside. If you do not have a mobile number, please provide our team with your car registration plate details.

CERVICAL SCREENING/SMEAR TESTS: As per NHS guidance, smear test recalls were deferred by the service for up to 6 months. Cervical screening at the practice has now been resumed. The cervical screening service will be continuing to invite all relevant patients by post. When you receive your invitation (or if you have received it already), you should call the practice to book a nurse appointment. If you have any queries, please contact the nurse via the website.

ASTHMA: Asthma reviews will be conducted over the telephone with the Asthma Nurse. Please call on the day to book. Routine spirometry tests (including reversibility) have been suspended during COVID-19.

DIABETES: Routine diabetes reviews have been suspended during COVID-19. If you have any concerns regarding your diabetes, please call on the day to arrange a telephone appointment with the Diabetes Nurse.

On behalf of the GP Partners at the Downland Practice, thank you for your patience.
